ZOEY CLARK INSPIRES 600 YOUNGSTERS IN ABERDEEN FUN RUN

ABERDEEN born Zoey Clark supported 680 primary school children across 10 local schools in a mass fun run on 3 September 2019 organised by GO Run For Fun, in partnership with Active Schools.

Sheddocksley Sports Centre played host to the event, where pupils aged 5 to eleven ran a 2 kilometre route covering its outside grounds.

Zoey Clark, 400 metre athlete and part of the British 4 × 400 relay team, winning a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships, was a special guest at the children’s running event. She took the pupils through a fun warm up routine, set them off at the start line and congratulated them as they completed the run.

Clark commented: “I think events like this are so important to give kids opportunities to try new things. The events show kids how enjoyable physical activities can be and gives them experience working towards a goal.

“There are so many types of activities out there and it’s all about finding the right ones that make you feel good.  When you are young it is good to try out lots of different activities to see what you enjoy the most.

When talking about when her interest in athletics began, Clark said: “I started athletics when I was 15, a teacher at school encouraged me to try athletics after seeing me run during other sports at school. Once I went down to the track I knew it was the right sport for me.

“Athletics brought me out of my shell and helped me become a more confident person. It also taught me to work hard for things that you really want and how to manage my time to fit everything in.”

Volunteers from Active Schools and INEOS supported the smooth-running of the event, on hand to help those from Bramble Brae School, Westpark School, Quarryhill School, Manor Park School, Dyce School, Kingsford School, Skene Square Primary School, Heathryburn School, St Joseph’s RC Primary School and St Peters RC Primary School throughout the day.

GO Run For Fun is an initiative supported by INEOS, a multinational company head-quartered in London, with health and fitness at the heart of its ethos.

INEOS Chairman, Jim Ratcliffe, is deeply passionate about running. He said: “It has never been more important to support young people in leading healthier, more active lives.

“GO Run for Fun and The Daily Mile have been making a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of children in the UK and beyond for the last six years. We are very proud to support these two initiatives and everyone who runs in them.”
