GO Run For Fun heads stateside…

Almost 300,000 children in Europe, North America and Asia have participated in GO Run For Fun.

We brought a pilot program to the communities around INEOS sites in Texas between March 9th and 14th 2015, and had an amazing time working with local school districts. We celebrated running and active living with over 6000 local children, track and field superstar Wallace Spearmon, and even the astronaut Mario Runco!

Here’s what they said about us…

"I want to thank each of you for coming out and getting our students active! They are still talking about it today and are asking if we can do it next year. Several even stopped me in the office to ask if they could join our Mighty Milers club. I know hosting an event like this takes tons of work and time and Alvin Elementary appreciates everyone that participated in making this event a success. We look forward to doing this again next year."

Karla Klyng, Principal, Alvin Primary

“I wanted to give you some feedback from the perspective of a parent. My daughter, who is 5, is starting to show interest in sports activities. This was such a perfect opportunity for her to get out and try her hand at running in a competitive-like atmosphere. She did so well, and still talks about it. She was so proud of her shirt she asked to wear it again to school the following week and again to another outing. The premise of running for fun not only gets kids like her motivated, but it gives kids access to a low to no cost healthy hobby. Thank you and the team for such a fun event, we hope to attend more in the future!”

Allison White

"Thanks for organizing the event. It was AWESOME!!! My nephew thoroughly enjoyed it! As a marathoner and half-marathoner, I thought it was a well-organized event and I will surely volunteer next time."

Christine A. Henry

"I wanted to say thank you one more time for everything you and your team did to make the Fun Run possible! It was such a positive experience for our students and staff as well, and the students are still talking about it this morning! Your team […]  were amazing and put together a fun event in spite of the soggy conditions! Everyone was enthusiastic and made sure the event focused on the students! And of course, it was an honor having Bernard Lagat here at Alvin Primary. He was so gracious and patient with everyone!

[…] I hope your next experience with these runs will be full of sunshine! We look forward to the opportunity to host another run next year and the pleasure of working with you again."

Diane Peltier, Alvin ISD

Who’s on board?

The GO Run For Fun Foundation is supported by INEOS, and the campaign is delivered by The Great Run Company, a leading organizer of professional sporting events in the UK.

We have a wide range of local, national and international supporters- this includes USA Track and Field and some of our homegrown sports heroes:

Bernard Lagat Daegu 2011“Everyone in my family enjoys running to keep in shape and I particularly enjoyed running with my friends at school. Running has provided me with a fantastic opportunity to travel the world and meet some great people.GO Run For Fun events are a great way for children to have fun outdoors and who knows, we may even inspire the next generation of World Champions and Olympians”

Bernard Lagat (USA 1500m)

Dawn HarperI enjoyed participating in all kinds of sports at school and was encouraged by my class teachers. Getting to the Olympics was always a dream while I was at school and winning two Olympic medals for my country was amazing. Keeping fit and enjoying sports with friends is fun and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. GO Run For Fun is an exciting new campaign where you can run with friends and some of you can even run fast like me……."

Why Houston?

Because we are supported by INEOS, which has manufacturing sites in the area. Sometimes described as “the biggest company you’ve never heard of”, INEOS endeavors to be a good neighbor, actively seeking opportunities to support youth sports and pass on its company culture of active living. We are starting out here, this is just the beginning… we've expanded into two INEOS communities in Illinois and hope to expand around other US INEOS communities.

Healthy, active kids tend to be better engaged, and more successful in school. Being active in athletic activities also teaches the values of teamwork, accountability, fair play, and a drive for doing your best. INEOS is teaming up with local schools, clubs and parents to help show kids that it’s fun to get off the couch and get outside to run. I’m very excited about the opportunity to help motivate kids to be more physically active. Over 30,000 children of all abilities participated in the European GO Run For Fun program’s first year and we’re targeting 100,000 globally over the next few years. Hopefully a large number of those kids will discover the joy in being active and will continue to engage in activities that help them to be healthy and successful as they grow into adulthood.
