About GO Foundation

GO Run For Fun is an international campaign, set up to inspire children to be more active through fun short-distance running events. It has been a phenomenal success so far with over 280,000 children having taken part since 2013.

There is enormous potential to grow the campaign beyond the seed investment made by INEOS, and the GO Run For Fun Charitable Foundation has been established to facilitate support from the Government and the Private Sector.

We have developed informative and fun educational materials for schools and parents to inspire children to adopt healthy habits and lifestyles from their early years. Please see our DART-TV page for key themes focussing on health & wellbeing.

Why is the GO Run For Fun campaign so important?

The Global World Health Organisation (WHO) regards childhood obesity as one of the most serious global public health challenges for the 21st century. Obese children and adolescents are at an increased risk of developing various health problems, and are more likely to become obese adults.

  • There are 3.5million children in the UK aged between 5 and 9 years old. Across the UK and all age groups the overall activity levels are falling.
  • Almost a fifth of 4-5 year olds are overweight or obese and a third of 10-11 year olds (The national Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) 2012/13)
  • Four out of five boys and girls aged 5-15 have less than 60 mins of physical activity a day.
  • For very young children ages 2-4 it is even worse with 9 out of 10 getting less than 60 mins of physical activity.

The GO Run For Fun campaign is facilitating change. It is successfully promoting an increase in physical activity in children, as well as demonstrating the fun that can be found in exercise. The campaign is easily scalable and can reach children across the world, it is currently reaching 9 countries.
